Hi All,
The Gross 5" Square Swap!
I would like to do a charm quilt, however my stash is quite miniscule. This is what I'm thinking: If 12 of us banded together, then out of 12 different fat quarters we each could cut 144 5" squares-12 from each fat quarter & voila! 144 new(to us anyway) fabrics. Of course, some of you lucky ones can do this by visiting your stash, but for those, like me, who will need to shop 12 fat quarters won't break the bank.

The Guidelines:
1) 100% good quality cotton (do unto others...)
2) 144 5" accurately cut squares, at least 12 different fabrics.
3) NO requests, you get what you get (the charm of the charm)
4) Each member will mail the packets of 12 to each of the other 11 members.
5) In the mail by 1/31/2005 (2005!)

What I will do:
1) Do my best to find 12 members
2) E-mail the mailing addresses to all.

I'm hoping this will be a success, if so perhaps we could repeat it every 2 or 3 or 4 months. Just think if we could do it every 2 months by this time next year we would all have 864 different fabrics.

I am looking for sweatshirts with the following places on them. I am not concerned with the quality of the sweat shirt itself but a 12" x 12" front that is readable and stain free. I am looking for one each of the following. Boise ID, St. Louis(MO)Taylor University, (Upland IN), North East Missouri State (college). Ft. Mead (MD)
St. Genovive (MO)I am open to suggestions for an exchange. I made the mistake of telling my daughter and her husband I would make a quilt of the various places they have lived or went to school. contact me if you have one or more to trade and Let me know of your needs

AUTUMN LEAVES FLANNEL FOUR-INCH CHARM SWAP!

Hi Everybody!

Im hosting a new charm swap and hope that youll want to participate.

Autumn is my favorite time of year and I want to make a flannel rag quilt by October. Perhaps you do, too, or have another autumn flannel project in mind?

Here are the rulesplease read them carefully and email me if you have any questions:

1. PLEASE email me BY AUGUST 14TH at TessieQ@wvi.com if you wish to participate after reading the following rules. Please put AUTUMN FLANNEL SWAP in the subject line of your email so Ill be able to tell that its not spam!

2. QUILT SHOP QUALITY, 100% COTTON flannel only! (Swapping cheap discount store flannel with someone who has provided quilt shop quality flannel isnt fair.)

3. PRE-WASH AND IRON your flannel. If possible, please use a dye magnet in the wash. (Its been my experience that flannels shrink quite a bit and seldom in the same way from manufacturer to manufacturer.)

4. Trim selvedges before cutting your squares.

5. FOUR-INCH squares only. Please cut as accurately as possible. Allowing for shrinkage, some fraying in the wash, and the removal of the selvedges, you should be able to get 40 4-inch squares out of one-half yard of fabric. An average investment of about $20 will probably get you two total yards of four different fabrics (see #6, below).

6. Prepare AT LEAST FOUR SETS of charm squares consisting of FOUR charm squares of DIFFERENT autumnal colors PER SET. (For example, EACH of your four sets would have one charm square EACH of brown, gold, rust, and orange.)

7. You must swap AT LEAST FOUR SETS consisting of FOUR DIFFERENT charm squares (see #6, above). You may send as many sets as you wishIN MULTIPLES OF FOUR OF THE SAME SET. In other words, you can prepare two or more sets of a different array of fabrics but each set must be in a multiple of four. The more people that participate, the more variety of charm squares well receive. But, if only a handful participate, please understand and be prepared for the possibility that youll receive some of your own sets back if you choose to send more than one variety of set.

8. By autumnal colors I mean solids, prints that read solid, tone-on-tones, batiks, or prints that have autumn leaves or suggest autumn in shades of brown, orange, rusty red, gold, olive green, deep purples (such as eggplant or plum), or dark blues (such as navy or indigo).

9. PLEASE NO brights, pastels, clear tones (i.e, true blue), whites, blacks or novelty or kids prints--especially prints which are specifically for Halloween or Thanksgiving (unless they meet the criteria in #8, above but are not cutesy). Also please keep the use of cream tones to a minimumtheyre okay if used sparingly in a print, but no solids, tone-on-tones, or prints that read solid in creams.

10. Put EACH SET in a baggie, LABELED with your name, address, phone number, and email address.

11. Put ALL SETS in a larger baggie also LABELED with your name, address, phone number, and email address. Then put this big baggie in a large manila or tyvek (non-tear) envelope addressed to me. (I will email my snail mail address to all participants.)

12. PLEASE Include a LARGE, STAMPED, self-addressed manila or tyvek envelope with the SAME AMOUNT OF POSTAGEIN STAMPS (NOT metered postagethats usable only for the date on it)as the package youre sending to me. This will be the envelope in which I will return the sorted swap packages to you. If no postage is on your return envelope, I will not send your swap packages until you provide it.

12. PLEASE!! BEFORE SENDING ME ANY OF YOUR SETS, you MUST email me to make certain we have enough participants! If we have less than four, then this wont work and youll be wasting your money and time. I will email all participants a list of participants on August 15th. I will also try to send weekly updates regarding swap packages received.

13. PLEASE All sets are DUE NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 18TH! Unless you have a valid reason, all late arrivals will be returned to sender, unopened. Please keep this in mind, especially if we have only a handful of participants.

14. Sorted swap packages will be sent back to you the week of September 19th.

15. And last, but certainly not least, PLEASE HAVE FUN WITH THIS!!

Welcome to the Monthly Nickle Swap. This is a centralized swap of 5 inch squares of fabric. Anyone who wants to may participate. You may participate some months and not others if you want to. All squares are due by the 25th of the month. I will try to mail them back by the 30th of each month.
1 set = 10 five inch squares of fabric. You can get 10 squares with some left over out of 1 fat quarter.
You may send up to 4 sets but you might get repeats back depending on how many people participate each month. Please follow the monthly themes listed below. If you would like you could include an extra square for charity but this is not mandatory.
Please use only high quality fabric (no VIP or WalMart). We want to use good quality fabrics in the quilts we work so hard on. Please send only what you would want to get back. If you can see through it don't use it. I reserve the right to return unswapped any fabric that is not good quality.
Fabrics should be prewashed and ironed. Squares should be rotary cut.
Each set should be in a ziplock type baggie with your name and address on it. This is very important for 2 reasons:
- It helps me keep track of which set belongs to who.
- If your package is damaged in the mail your sets will still make it to you because they have your name and address on them.
Themes:
2004
April - April Showers - Blue Fabrics
May - May Flowers - Floral Fabrics
June - Sunshine - Yellow Fabrics
July - Sunburn (LOL I do live in South Florida) - Red Fabrics
August - Grape Jelly - Purple Fabrics
September - Happy Fall - Fall Fabrics
October - Creature Feature - Animal Fabrics
November - Dark - Dark Fabrics
December - Evergreens - Green Fabrics
2005
January - Brights - Bright Fabrics
February - Tickeled Pink - Pink Fabrics
March - Pastels - Pastel Fabrics
Place baggies of squares in a good quality envelope (tyvec ones are free with priority mail although you don't have to use them or send by priority mail) and include a self addressed envelope with the same postage (in stamps) that it took you to mail your package to me for your return squares.
Email me at fabraholic216@aol.com to sign up and I will send you my snail mail address.
Please also check out my Kitties and Cream swap in the block swap section. Thanks.

I am a quilter who exchanged squishies in 1999 to make 3 Y2K quilts. I swapped around the world, but now I realize I did something foolish. I threw away all of the envelopes my squishies came in. My reason for wanting them now is that I am beginning a stamp collection with my 6 year-old grandson and I wish I had all those used stamps I threw away! Here's my request: If you are receiving swaps with no need for the used postage stamps, I would love to have them. If you will e-mail me I will be glad to send sase for you to send the stamps gently torn from the corner of the envelope(s). Thanks so much, and happy quilting!

Project Linus needs YOU! Thanks to donations from quilters like YOU our guild has donated 44 quilts to Project Linus in our 1-1/2 years of existence! They were mostly created from donated UFO's and orphan blocks, backing and batting. If you have any extra blocks or tops you know you'll never quilt, or "why-did-I-buy-this?" fabric, or extra batting, please send them to us and we'll make them into MAGIC QUILTS: ones that will magically cause a smile to appear on a hospitalized child's face. Thank you! Janice in NM
