Question of the Week

Question for the week of September 13, 2004:

Our question this week comes from Susan S:

Some pins that I used to keep together pices of a scrap quilt in progress, turned rusty and now there are rust stains on the fabric. How can I get these stains out?

Kristin :
I think you cut the piece of fabric with stains out. That's how you get Out!

Christina in WA :
I heard that hydrogen peroxide works on rust because it's an organic stain. I don't know if this is true or not.
Ivy :
I've had success using "Rust Stain Remover" by Whink. Made "for all colorfast fabrics, white sinks, and white toilet bowls", or so they claim. I've only used it on the rusty spots, not a whole quilt, and it worked. Got it at the grocery story, shleved with other cleaning supplies.
Jean Dey :
I would visit my friend at the local laundromat. She can get out any stain, and is very helpful.
Sue :
There used to be a product made just for taking out rust stains - It may still be out there. It was in grocery and general department stores and was a liquid that you soaked the fabric in. It did work for me on a piece of needle work that had rust stains from a needle. See if you can find it.
