Question of the Week

Question for the week of November 15, 1999:

Our question this week comes from Nancy Grey

When foundation piecing, I have trouble getting the edges of the block to be on the straight grain of the fabric when the edge pieces don't join the center at a right angle - any suggestions?

carol :
Something I don't like about paper foundation piecing is that if you find a nice pattern, the copy right laws wont'allow for using the pattern to sell at bazaars or anywhere.

Lori Peters :
Isn't one of the great things about foundation piecing the fact that you don't have to worry about straight of grain and such, as the paper stablilizes and keeps it from distorting until the whole top is done?? That's what I have always been taught....and that's why I love it!
Leslie :
Try Linda Worland's web site "Paper Panache" (www.paperpanache.com). She has a wonderful workshop on getting directional fabrics to go the right direction when paper piecing. The same principles would work for getting fabric grain to run the right way.
