Is it safe to use basting spray, i.e. Sullivans, on a baby quilt?

I tried it once on a small wall hanging and it smelled so bad the whole time I was hand quilting it that I'll never use it again, especially for something like a baby qult

Yes, The quilting spray I use (Sullivans) will wash out. It is a wonderful product, it makes machine quilting so easy no basting no hoops just quilting!

I always wash baby quilts before giving them, so I figure it's OK.

I have used Sullivan's on many baby quilts and have
never had a problem. I do wash the quilt when I
finish quilting it. I recently hand quilted a queen
sized quilt and had no problem whatsoever with it
gunking up the needle. I will not baste any other
way. I do always spray baste outside though. The
overspray and fumes are not good but its been worth
it for the quick basting.

I use it on all amaller projects, even baby quilts. I always wash them thoroughly. Hopefully I am not polluting my grandchildren. Use with machine quilting only. Sandwhiching is my least favorite activity, I'll do about anything to speed it along.

I, personally, would never use that stuff. I partucularly would never use it on something that would be used by a baby. I was tempted to try it until I read the warnings on the back of the label. Yikes! I'll stick with thread and pins!

Hi, I've used that spray quite a bit. I always wash my quilts when finished before they are given away.
Don't try and hand quilt. Sticky, icky.

if the basting spray is a commercial product it has been tested by the e.p.a. and should not be harmful, however iwash everything before a baby puts it in their mouth.

I'd read the list of ingredients first.
There are enough chemicals out there
already. They may save time, but are
they harmful to our health?
