Question of the Week

Question for the week of March 29, 1999:

Our question this week comes from Boyana

How would you make a "quilt as you go" reversible log cabin quilt-you get the log cabin pattern on both sides

Margaret :
MARTI mITCHELL HAS A BOOK "WEEKEND LOG CABIN QUILTS" AND IT SHOWS HOW TO DO ALL-IN-ONE PIECING & QUILTING, WHICH MIGHT HELP

Alison :
Sew each strip with the batting and then turn them inside out. (like little tubes) Sew all the strips together with a decorative stitch.
Jana :
I'm not concerned with wasting a little fabric. So I would cut strips larger than needed and would use the foundation piecing fabric panels that are out. That way, you can see the sewing line from both sides and can catch both top and bottom pieces.
rf schug :
As Sandi suggested BUT I recommend you cut batting into small manageable squares, about one inch larger than the log cabin square. Make each square and then sew them together as you move along. One side will have to be topstiched. Enjoy. I used this method for children's quilts when I'm in a hurry.
Sandi :
Flip and sew with the batting in the center
