Question of the Week

Question for the week of December 7, 1998:

Our question this week comes from Sue Traudt

I like to ask this question every year - What quilt related gifts are you putting on your wish list in 1998?

Judith Parson :
Fiskars softouch microtip scissors

Jami Taylor :
A quilted jacket! They are so soft and cool. All my friends have them. You can get them in Fredricksburg, where they speliaze in these things, or at just about any jacket store.
Sandi L. :
I have put these items on my "dream" Christmas list:
A Bernina Quilters Edition Sewing Machine, A Grace EZ3 Quilting Fame,
and a Featherweight.
Mrs Jane Clay :
small cutting mat(to carry round)
small rotary cutter (ditto)
fabric
a selection of books
new sewing machine (got it!-and he let me use it early)
more fabric
Doreen Sloan :
A computer software program for designing quilts.

Tracy :
Time time time
WilliQuilt :
Ott light. Next year--Floor frame. Maybe Pleasant Mountain or Hinterberg.
Kate,WA :
I want my daughter and her two children to move out of my house,
so I can have my sewing room back. It's stuffed into my bedroom
now. I, also, want to have a cure for my cancer. A spontaneous
healing would be nice. I got a new Pfaff last month as a surprise.
Now I have 2 Pfaff sewing machines and 1 Elna serger. Wouldn't mind
more time and money. I love to dream!
Cheryl :
fabric, fabric, fabric
Debbie :
I would like the sewing machine of my dreams.......a Viking #1+. Then I would like for everyone to leave me alone during the week so I could do all the sewing and creating I want.
Sherry :
Another Ott Lite (floor model this time) and a Featherweight!
Jan --quiltlover@aol.com :
A scissors sharpener. Live too far away from a quilting store to get it done there. Santa has been notified!
JANA FROM WASH.STATE :
I WOULD LIKE THE BOOK DOUBLE WEDDING RING BY JOHN FLYNN BECAUSE I WANT TO MAKE THIS QUILT SO BAD AND THIS BOOK
DOES IT STRIP PIECING.

> Rebecca in Mass. :
I started quilting this year, so I'm still on the basics. I've asked for one of those big quilt block "dictionaries", and a book with a bunch of quilting designs.
Yvonne :
I would like a new sewing machine..or gift certificates from favorite guilt stores...
Angelika Schulz,Germany :
I want to have more time for my Hobby and more money.
Michelle in Indiana :
A new rotary cutter, new fabrics.
Michelle McLendon :
This is the first year that my daughter (4 years) will not be getting a quilt for Christmas! She wants to pick out her own fabric, but our one big fabric store has been remodelling--hard to get into!
My sister and two sisters-in-law are all getting quilted wall hangings, thanks to Debbie Mumm! My youngest niece is getting a charm quilt (1500 different prints!), and my older niece is getting a quilt that began it's life as a pinwheel, I think. I changed directions after finishing all the blocks! My Christmas list was all quilting stuff! I can't wait to see what Santa leaves!
Jan :

FABRIC!!

Linda Blum :
Sew Precise I & II
June Taylor Cut & Press
Brigitte :
I am looking for a darning foot for my
Pfaff Sewing Mashine and lots and
lots of quilting books.
tennie :
gift certificates, Stack & Whack Quilts book, machine quilting gloves
and TIME TIME TIME

Bernice :
I am asking for a walking foot for my Artista 180 and gift certificates from my fabric store. Everything I ask for is related to sewing. I want embroidery disks for my computer and cards for my machine. It goes on & on.
Lucile Lapin :
EQ4 software for designing quilts
judy clay :
Thread
Janet :
Time to sew.
Kathleen :
pinking shears - have never had them and always wanted some great ones like my mother had. That was more than 50 years ago so its about time!
Karen O'Neil :
Besides books - gift certificate at favorite quilt shop because I have every ruler and gadget you can think of.
Karen Leak :
The Ott light - do you know any one who has one and are they worth the extra money?
Elena :
Well, I would like a lot of things.... Most are so specific that non-quilters (meaning: my family and freinds) wouldn't know what I am talking about.

However, I have not-so-subtly hinted to my husband that some fabric would be nice. I asked for either 1/2 yards of 100% cotton (I pointed out the part of the store) or samplers of Fat Quarters or 3" or greater squares. Any pattern is fine - I'll use it all.

Eirian Thomas :
Definitely gift vouchers for my favourite quilt shop - Joseph's Coat in Cowbridge!
That way, I can choose!!
Carol :
a new sewing machine
Helen from NJ :
I'd like more fabric, naturally and time to finsih all the tings I have started. And most of all I pray that my cataract surgeries in Jan and Feb go well so I can hurry back to my sewing.
Robin Sidwell :
HIgh on my wishlist is a plexiglass extension sewing surface to fit onto my Bernina to make machine quilting easier. Also, a fabric packet and pattern from Country Threads--it's such a luxury to have someone else choose colors sometimes.
Jacquie Green :
Even though I'm intimidated by the thought of making a bed size quilt, I love to look through books featuring patterns and color ideas....guess I'm building up my courage. I love to get books about quilters, their history and quilt patterns.
Holly from Ohio :
I want gift certificates from my favorite quilt stores so that I can spend hours making up my mind what I should buy!
Martha :
A sewing room where I can put my sewing machine and material. I literally have no space to spread out and see how the quilt looks as I piece it.
Janice :
I know what I'd like but I'll never get it : a table large enough to baste even a king size quilt, and maybe a Bernina.......
Jane Sanders :
Gift certificates to my favourite quilt stores are on my list 365 days of the year! If these are found in my stocking, I can go shopping in January when everyone is trying to recooperate financially!
Leslie :
Carol Doak's Foundation Factory CD and some of the new Susan Branch fabrics.
Sarah Jones :
2 things - the updated version of Quiltpro, (version 3.0) and an extension table for my sewing machine.
Faye :
I'd like a knee-lifter for my Bernina (can't believe the 150 doesn't come with this standard). I'd also like a 56K modem - not exactly quilt-related, but it will help me look at this BB and other quilty sites faster.
Jeanette :
My kids refuse to buy me any more fabric or tools so I make a list and purchase things for myself. I just purchased the LARGE Olfa rotary cutter and an extra blade. I put it to work cutting squares for the Y2K exchange. I love it.
Katy :
A book about hexagon designs.
5" scissors
Linda Retterer :
cloth
