Question of the Week

Question for the week of October 27, 1997:

Our question this week comes from Sandy

I was wondering how to start a guild; what the rules and regulations?

Diane :
All you need is a group of individuals who are as crazy about quilting as you are. Decide what you want to accomplish, what are your goals? The founding members become the first years board members, president, secretary, and so forth. Most guilds have "non-profit" status. I'm sure you're going to hear from some brave souls out there who have started guilds! Good Luck, Keep on Piecing!

Judith :
Dear Sandy,
About 3 years a go I was one of the founding members of a second quild in my small city.
There were no rules or regulations. With some guidance from the existing quild executive, we merely held several meetings to find interested members, elected a couple of co-chairs. We set a membership fee of 15 dollars per year, found resources within the group and the community to create interesting workshops, and programs and we were on our way. Today the quild has close to 100 members. Good luck!

Sophie :
Check-out the web site for the
Canadian Quilters' Association

They have a great article on how to start a quilt guild.
