The goal of AQSG is to develop a responsible and accurate body of information about quilts and their makers. AQSG welcomes all persons interested in the history of quiltmaking. AQSG includes quilt lovers, researchers, authors, collectors, museum curators, conservators, folklorists, dealers, traditional and contemporary quilt artists. AQSG opens the door to an extensive and diverse network of people who are passionate about quilts and whose interests range across every level of quilting.

Their mission statement is:
The American Quilt Study Group establishes, sustains, and promotes the highest standards for quilt-related studies. AQSG stimulates, nurtures, and affirms engagement in quilt studies, and provides opportunities for its dissemination.

AQSG sponsors a yearly seminar; publishes an annual volume, Uncoverings; produces a series of Technical Guides; publishes a newsletter, Blanket Statements; offers scholarships and opportunities for presentation of quilt-related research. AQSG's research library and collections are now housed in the University of Nebraska libraries in Lincoln, Nebraska.

AQSG hosts an annual seminar at different locations across the country. The 2000 Seminar will be held in Lincoln, Nebraska. The 2001 Seminar will be held in Williamsburg, Virginia and the 2002 Seminar will be held in Rockford, Illinois.

Membership as a Friend is $35, Guild is $100, Seniors (65+) and Students are $25. There are other categories for those wishing to contribute more. AQSG will accept VISA or Mastercard.
