Simply Stars; Quilts that Sparkle by Alex Anderson
C &T Publishing, Lafayette, CA, 1996

A very good book on piecing star quilt block patterns from the hostess of HGTV's Simply Quilts. The book is divided into several parts, the first part covering basics such as color selection, fabric, basic piecing, and a very thorough discussion of rotary cutting many different triangles. Next, the reader is treated to a colorful and inspiring collection of star blocks quilts. The book then progresses through the piecing directions for six inch and twelve inch star blocks beginning with the simple and progressing to the complex.

Most impressive about this book is the way that the star patterns are presented to the reader. Not only cutting of the block pieces, but also which direction to press the seams are given. Even a beginning quilter would have no problem following the block instructions and all patterns are followed by a quilt top made from the block as well as a full color picture of the quilt. Finally, the book contains a class outline for those interested in teaching from a four week class using Simply Stars.

The book is organized as follows:
