WWQP Tenth Anniversary Block of the Month

June 2004 - 4" Block

Four Square

Fifteen blocks needed for the WWQP Tenth Anniversary Quilt

Fabric

The Four Square Block uses two different fabrics.

 Fabric - 4

 Fabric 6

Cutting the fabric

This Quilt Row requires:

Two 2-1/2" x 42" strips of Fabric 6 - each strip should complete eight blocks.

Two 2-1/2" x 42" strips of Fabric 4 - each strip should complete eight blocks.

 Piecing the Blocks

 1) Join together one strip of Fabric 4 with one strip of Fabric 6 as shown using a scant 1/4" seam allowance. Press the seam allowance toward the darker fabric strip. Repeat with the second Fabric 4 and Fabric 6 strips.
 2) Straighten one of the short edges on the strips joined in Step 1. Then cut the strips as shown creating 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles. A total of 30 units are needed to complete fifteen blocks for this quilt row.
 3) Take two units from Step 2 and join together with a scant 1/4" seam allowance as shown making sure that the Fabric 4 squares are matched with the Fabric 2 squares.
 4) Press the seam allowances to either side. The completed Block should measure 4-1/2" which includes a 1/4" seam allowance on all sides. There should be a total of fifteen blocks to complete the quilt row.
 5) Join the fifteen Four Square blocks together with a scant 1/4" seam as shown. Press seam allowances in one direction. This completes the third row of the Tenth Anniversary quilt.
 6) Join the At the Square row to the ZigZag row completed last month. Press the seam allowance toward the ZigZag row. Then join the Four Square row to the At the Square row. Press this seam allowance toward the Four Square row. This completes the second month of the Tenth Anniversary quilt.
