WWQP Tenth Anniversary Block of the Month

May 2004 - size 6" Block

ZigZag

Ten blocks needed for the WWQP Tenth Anniversary Quilt

Fabric

The Block uses two different fabrics.

 Fabric - 1

 Fabric - 6

Cutting the fabric

This Quilt Row requires:

Five 6-7/8" squares of Fabric 6 - one for every two blocks

Five 6-7/8" squares of Fabric 1 - one for every two blocks

Ten 3-1/2" squares of Fabric 6 - one for each block

Ten 3-1/2" squares of Fabric 1 - one for each block

 Piecing the Blocks

 1) Lightly make a diagonal line on the wrong side of the 6-7/8" Fabric 6 blocks.
 2) Place the 6-7/8" Fabric 6 blocks, right sides together, with the 6-7/8" Fabric 1 blocks making sure that the edges are even. Sew a scant 1/4" away from both sides of the diagonal line.
 3) Cut the 6-7/8" blocks apart on the marked diagonal line.
 4) Press seam allowance toward the darker fabric. The blocks should now measure 6-1/2" squares. For the quilt row, there should be a total of ten blocks.
 5) Lightly mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of all of the 3-1/2" squares.
 6) Place one Fabric 6 3-1/2 square on one of the Step Four units over the Fabric 1 triangle as shown, right sides together. Sew on the diagonal line. Repeat with the remaining 3-1/2" Fabric 6 squares and Step Four units.
 7) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn diagonal line on all the Step Six units.
 8) Press seam allowances toward the 3-1/2" square.
 9) Place one Fabric 1 3-1/2 square on one of the Step Eight units over the Fabric 6 triangle as shown, right sides together. Sew on the diagonal line. Repeat with the remaining 3-1/2" Fabric 1 squares and Step Eight units.
 10) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn diagonal line on all the Step Nine units.
 11) Press seam allowances toward the 3-1/2" square. The completed ZigZag Block should measure 6-1/2" which includes a 1/4" seam allowance on all sides. There should be a total of ten blocks to complete the quilt row.
 12) Join the ten completed ZigZag blocks together with a scant 1/4" seam as shown. Press seam allowances in one direction. This completes the first row of the Tenth Anniversary quilt.
