four 2" squares of background fabric
four 2" squares of fabric A
four 2" squares of fabric B
one 3-1/2" square of background fabric
 four 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles of fabric B

 Piecing the Block

 1) On the wrong side of 2-3/8" x 4-3/4" rectangle of background fabric, lightly draw a straight line 2-3/8" from the short edge dividing the rectangle in half and forming two squares. Then draw two diagonal lines through the center of the two squares as shown.
 2) Place the 2-3/8" x 4-3/4" rectangle of fabric A and place, right sides together, with the marked background fabric rectangle on top. Still holding the two rectangles together, sew a 1/4" away from the diagonal line on both sides.
 3) Cut the rectangles apart on the drawn lines creating four half square triangle components. Press the seams to the darker fabric. The finished units should measure 2".
 4) On the wrong side of the four 2" squares of fabric B, lightly mark a diagonal line as shown.
 5) Take the 3-1/2" square of background fabric and one of the 2" squares of fabric B and place them right sides together with the marked diagonal line placed as shown. Sew on the marked line.
 6) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn line and press the seam allowance toward fabric B.
 7) Take the Step 6 unit and one of the 2" squares of fabric B and place them right sides together with the marked diagonal line placed as shown. Sew on the marked line.
 8) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn line and press the seam allowance toward fabric B.
 9) Take the Step 8 unit and one of the 2" squares of fabric B and place them right sides together with the marked diagonal line placed as shown. Sew on the marked line.
 10) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn line and press the seam allowance toward fabric B.
 11) Take the Step 10 unit and the remaining 2" square of fabric B and place them right sides together with the marked diagonal line placed as shown. Sew on the marked line.
 12) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn line and press the seam allowance toward fabric B. The completed unit should measure 3-1/2" square.
 13) On the wrong side of the four 2" squares of background fabric, lightly mark a diagonal line as shown.
 14) On the wrong side of the four 2" squares of fabric A, lightly mark a diagonal line as shown.
 15) Take one of the 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles of fabric B and one of the 2" squares of background fabric and place them right sides together with the marked diagonal line placed as shown. Sew on the marked line. Repeat with the three remaining 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles of fabric B and three remaining 2" squares of background fabric.
 16) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn line and press the seam allowance toward the background fabric.
 17) Take one of units completed in Step 16 and one of the 2" squares of fabric A and place them right sides together with the marked diagonal line placed as shown. Sew on the marked line. Repeat with the three remaining Step 16 units and three remaining 2" squares of fabric A.
 18) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn line and press the seam allowance toward the fabric A. The completed rectangular units should measure 2" x 3-1/2".
 19) Take the unit completed in Step 12 and two of the units completed in Step 18 and piece together as shown to completed the middle row of the quilt Block. Press the seam allowances toward the Step 12 unit. This completed row should measure 4-1/2" x 6-1/2".

Take the remaining Step 18 and Step 3 units and piece together as shown to complete the bottom row of the Block. Press the seam allowances toward the Step 3 units. The completed rows should measure 2" x 6-1/2".
