Anita :
I buy what I like. I usually don't have a plan when I buy - just things that speak to me. 2 or 3 yards at a time - sometimes more - sometimes less.
When inspiration strikes I check my stash and then it's off to shop for whatever I think I need to finish up.
Always take along some of the fabrics you want to match - colors don't carry well in the minds eye. What you think is the perfect shade often isn't. Try to pick up "minor" colors from the main print - if the match isn't perfect it won't be as obvious. The blue that matches the little dot in the print will bring out the blue or you can match the greens in the leaves and the fabric will seem an entirely color.
Don't be afraid to try colors you don't usually wear or decorate with. In a quilt anything goes!!!!!!
The ones I have made from scraps are probably my favorites, too. But I do admit to a linen closet with no linens -only my stash for quilts,
HAVE FUN
I put these bolts together and stand back as though I am viewing them on a bed and I am in the door way of the room.
The main fabric is purchased as the most yardage, then a secondary one, then the other 2 or 3 are less amounts.
Usually I am making a sampler quilt.
