Question of the Week

Question for the week of May 6, 2002:

Our question this week comes Marsha

What is a round robin and how does it work?

Kathy in WA :
A group of quilters each start a quilt with a center medallion of their choice and pass this on to the mext member who adds a border. Each member in succession adds a border until the top is completed and returned to its owner. Rules are agreed on beforehand. As examples: the originator might provide the fabrics she wishes to be used or the group might add fabrics from their own resources. A theme might be part of the project. Or perhaps each round must be a particular type of piecing--curves, applique, using triangles, etc. Or there might be a size limitation of the borders.

You can also do a ROW robin where each member of the group does a row of blocks for your quilt. I am currently involved in a vest robin. There are five members to our group. Each provided a muslin of their vest pattern and the fabrics to use. One person does the right front, the next the left front, then the left back and the right back, then the vest returns to its owner for finishing. I have been in a vest robin before and my vest is awesome! I am hoping that this one will be as great.
