Question of the Week

Question for the week of December 13, 1999:

Our question this week comes from Sue T

I like to ask this question every year - always find out about new "toys"!

What quilt related items are on your list to Santa ?

Marion :
time, money to afford all those wonderful fabrics, and a fixed sewing machine (it won't wind bobbins any more), inspiration on patterns, and -- this is a biggie -- the ability not to make mistakes!!!!! I'm sure I'll get the first three.

Julie :
A sewing room! And it may happen! We've put
an offer on a house with a huge room above the garage
with bright sunshiny dormer windows!
We just have to sell our current house!
Marlene in NH :
an OTT light that's all I need, have about everything else, hope Santa visits Keepsake
Chris in Texas :
I'd like a new Ott light, time, inspiration, and for Millie to offer that class so I can finish my sampler quilt!
bettejane karnes :
the largest gridded cutting mat I can find in order to do bindings and to square up wall hangings
Kay LaBute :
EQ4 - Stash - Block Base and of course Fabric!!
Valerie A Messier :
60 mm Rotary Cutter with extra blades
velvet :
Ott lite,Cutting table,More fabric!
Lori Peters :
All I want from Santa is:
A larger cutting mat...
A looong wide ruler...
and a mini ruler to go with my mini mat...
I guess I don't ask for much, well, next summer I get my very own Amish mini barn for my quilting studio so I'm trying to be nice :-) Just imagine...
Room to spread out and leave my mess...
sunshine, window seats and a cat door for my kitties...
constant heat, rocking chair, and shelves galore. Can you tell I'm excited??
Michele in Weston, Herts UK :
I must get 24 items for my advent calendar for adults (a bit belated but better late than never) in time for the neighbour's party on Jan 3. Tryin got find tiny things is hard!
Melissa :
To have the time to finish my very first quilt for my husband before he returns from his deployment (Navy). And the strength to finally leave my toddler with a babysitter so I can sew in peace!
Kim :
more TIME, more FABRIC, more BOOKS,
and anything to do with quilting! That should make it very easy for Santa to chose!
Jane :
An Ott light for my sewing room and new books...Gerry Kimmel's "12th Anniversary", Sandi Bonsib's "Folk Art Quilts" and her memory quilt book, a quilt hoop on a stand, a Singer Featherweight (I dream BIG!)
Carmen in Olathe :
Easy Flannel Quilts by Leisure Arts and a quilting hoop on a stand.
Tina in Columbia, Maryland :
The local quilt store is running a registry, like for brides...
My Santa knows where the store is, and that there's a list waiting for him!

I want more time, too!

cylkie :
I have a new Janome 9000, time to learn to sew,a GOOD light to see how to with.
and someone to tell me what is the standard sizes for quilts, I know it's on the web somewhere, but the time thing again....
Ann K. :
An Ott lamp ... the Kansas City Star book (just out) ... gift certificates so I can pick out fabric (how does Santa know exactly which prints you need to fill out your stash??) ... a 16" square ruler (seems I'm doing some bigger blocks lately) ... the AQS calendar for my wall at work ... and TIME! I wish I could spend as much time quilting as I do working, and as little time working as I do quilting!
Tina :
Fabric!
Lot's of fabric.
Elena :
I hinted a few things.... Mostly, I hinted to "Santa" that fabric of any sort would be welcome. 100% cotton in 1/2yd pieces for quilting, special fabrics like velvet or lace for other projects. It went over "Santa's" head last year, let's see if it'll stick this time! But my secret wish to Santa is for more time to quilt!
Norma Pacl :
A real sewing room.
lynette :
of course, FQs, especially plaids and country prints, but also a twelve inch square ruler, a point trimmer ruler, thangles in various sizes, quilt books, the Elna 6003(dream on), and a sheet of styrofoam for my design wall. And then I'd like the family to ooh and aah over what I have done so far.
Donna :
A new Bernina 180E with all accessories
Amory :
A new Salem rule, as I have destroyed two in the past year. The dog threw up on one and I was too grossed out to wash it (just ditched it) and I ran over the other one in my driveway (don't ask)! I think I'd better start being a little more careful with my toys.
Carol :
A new Bernina, as long as the feed dogs are not too wide, more time to work on quilting related items, a subscription to a magazine, (already have one to Quilter's Newsletter), a place big enough to hold quilting classes, my own fabric store. Will Santa bring me these things? Not likely. I think I am getting a certificate to the Hobby Horse in Georgetown, and that is one of the best gifts I receive for my birthday and for Christmas! I just hope that people I know and love are waiting for quilt related items. Merry Christmas!!
Leslie :
Everything I need to start dyeing fabric, including some time to myself. :-)
scrappykat :
I always like threads*
Fabric is nice too!
sometimes a good quilt
book. I like simple
pleasures to help with
my quilting*

Patricia in Georgia :
I'm just starting my first quilting project so I'm in need of everything from cutting mat to a walking foot to a closet full of fat quarters. And someone to convince my husband quilting is not only for blue-haired grannies (I'm only 24).

Happy Holidays!!
God Bless

Helena :
Having the experience to sew everything that I read in quilting magazines and books
Linda :
I've asked for a good light source for my sewing machine. As these eyes get older I find I need more light. Hope Santa got the HINT!
Janet :
Quilting books. I get my inspiration from looking at other peoples ideas. Of course, any new sewing machine attachments would be welcome, along with lots of different kinds of thread.

Dawn :
Fabric and more fabric this year. I have a room full but like jello there's always room for more. I have lots of rulers, cutters, mats, books, and magazines so fabric would help to make the projects complete! :)
Tomme Fent :
The new "fabric stash" software for use
with EQ4 (can't remember the name of it
right now.

Nancy Eckerd :
Time....I'd love to get started on a new one, but with a full time job, 2 teenagers and a husband, I have no time!
Gillian :
I want my own little elf that will clear off my sewing table and organize all my projects!
Debbie Ahls :
A Walking Foot for my Viking plus any new quilt books that look like fun.
Susan :
I asked for (and already bought for myself!) a Featherweight. I also have quilter's gloves on my list and of course always fabric!
Karen :
I'm asking for a Janome Jem and EQ4 software. Also to sign up for a Block of the Month.
