Question of the Week

Question for the week of January 12, 1998:

Our question this week comes from D Sikors

I would like to know what opportunities there are in the quilting arena for a home business; how much do you charge and what is it based on - time, materials, etc.

Sammy "G" :
What I did was to get in touch with people who do this work and request a brochure on their services. Some charge by the inch, some by the sq. ft. All have their own math formulas to do this. Their are lots of separate charges: if they have to press the top, if you want binding, stitch-in-the-ditch or custom designing (as opposed to edge-to-edge pantograph designs), large, medium or small stippling, weight of batting, etc. Your best bet would be to get in touch with some of these folks. I sure did. Some have brochures, some will e-mail you with info. Get busy and start your dective work!

Sammy "G" :
Actually, this is a question. A friend and I are wondering this very same thing. We are presently doing some research on machines, various methods of pricing your work and the actual need for such a service in our area. We both quilt by hand and domestic sewing machine. This doesn't answer your question though, does it?
