Fabric

The Texas Treasure Block uses different three fabrics.

 One background fabric


Cutting the fabric

This Block requires:

 one 6-1/2" square of fabric A
 four 5" squares of fabric A
 four 3-1/2" x 5" rectangles of fabric A
 four 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles of fabric A
 sixteen 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles of fabric B
 sixteen 2" squares of fabric B
 twelve 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles of background fabric
 thirty-six 2" squares of background fabric


 Piecing the Block

 1) On the wrong side of the 2" fabric B squares, lightly mark a diagonal line as shown.
 2) Place one of the marked fabric B square, right side together with one of the 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles of background fabric with the diagonal line placed as shown. Sew on the marked diagonal line. Repeat with seven more of the 2" x 3-1/2" background fabric rectangles and seven more of the 2" fabric B squares.
 3) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn line as shown. Press the seam allowance toward the fabric B square.
 4) Take one of the units completed in Step 3 and place one of the marked 2" fabric B squares, right side together with the diagonal line placed as shown. Sew on the marked diagonal line. Repeat with the seven remaining Step 3 units and the seven remaining marked 2" fabric B squares.
 5) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn line as shown. Press the seam allowance toward the fabric B square. The completed "geese" units should measure 2" x 3-1/2".
 6) Lightly mark a diagonal line as shown on the wrong side of thirty-two of the 2" background fabric squares. Note: Put four of the 2" background fabric squares aside for later.
 7) Place one of the 2" marked background fabric square, right side together with one of the 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles of fabric B with the diagonal line placed as shown. Sew on the marked diagonal line. Repeat with the fifteen remaining 2" x 3-1/2" fabric B rectangles and fifteen more of the 2" background fabric squares.
 8) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn line as shown. Press the seam allowance toward the background fabric square.
 9) Take one of the units completed in Step 8 and place one of the marked 2" background fabric squares, right side together with the diagonal line placed as shown. Sew on the marked diagonal line. Repeat with the fifteen remaining Step 8 units and the fifteen remaining marked 2" background fabric squares.
 10) Trim 1/4" away from the sewn line as shown. Press the seam allowance toward the background fabric squares. The completed "geese" units should measure 2" x 3-1/2".
 11) Take one of the units completed in Step 5 and two of the units completed in Step 10 and piece together as shown. Press the seam allowances up in the directions that the "geese" are flying. Repeat with the seven remaining Step 5 units and the fourteen remaining Step 10 units. The completed units in this step should measure 3-1/2" x 5".
 12) Take two of the units completed in Step 11 and one of the 3-1/2" x 5" rectangles of fabric A and piece together as shown. Repeat with the six remaining Step 11 units and the three remaining 3-1/2" x 5" rectangles of fabric A. Press the seam allowances toward the fabric A rectangles. The completed units should measure 5" x 9-1/2".
 13) Take one of the 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles of fabric A and two of the remaining 2" squares of background fabric and piece together as shown. Repeat with another of the 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles of fabric A and the last two of 2" background fabric squares. Press the seam allowances toward the background fabric squares. The completed units should measure 2" x 6-1/2".
 14) Take one of the 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles of fabric A and two of the 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles of background fabric and piece together as shown. Repeat with the remaining 2" x 3-1/2" rectangle of fabric A and the two remaining 2" x 3-1/2" background fabric squares. Press the seam allowances toward the background fabric. These completed units should measure 2" x 9-1/2".
 15) Take the two units completed in Step 13 and the 6-1/2" fabric A square and piece together as shown. Press the seam allowances toward the fabric A square.
 16) Take the two units completed in Step 14 and the Step 15 unit and piece together as shown. Press the seam allowance toward the Step 15 unit. This completed the center of the quilt Block. This completed units should measure 9" square.
 17) Take the center of the quilt Block completed in Step 16 and two of the units completed in Step 12 and piece together as shown to complete center row of the quilt Block. Press the seam allowances toward the center unit. The completed row should measure 9-1/2" x 18-1/2".
 18) Take one of the units completed in Step 12 and two of the 5" squares of fabric A and piece together as shown to completed the top row of the quilt Block. Repeat with the remaining Step 12 unit and two 5" fabric A squares. Press the seam allowances toward the fabric A squares. The completed quilt Block rows should measure 5" x 18-1/2".
 19) Take the center row completed in Step 17 and Step 18 and piece the rows together as shown to complete the Texas Treasure quilt Block. The completed quilt Block should measure 18-1/2" which includes a 1/4" seam allowance on all sides.
