Welcome to the

WWQP Quilt Block Contest

for the year 2000

Update 2004

It took me a few years to realize that no matter how good my intentions were, I would probably never be able to get all of the contest blocks into quilts for Project Linus. But good fortune came my way in the form of an ad on one of the classifieds page on the WWQP. The ad was from a group of quilters in New Mexico looking for blocks and other items to make quilts for Project Linus. After exchanging e-mail with Janice S, from Scrap-A-Holics A. Nonny Mouse, I sent her the contest blocks, I am now very happy to report that the blocks have all been made into quilts and donated to Project Linus. Below are pictures of some of those quilts.

A new idea for a new year.

We at the WWQP decided to sponsor an on going contest for the year 2000. When we started thinking about what to do for the new year, we wanted to create something that would be fun for our users, but we also wanted something that would make a difference in someone's life. So we decided on a contest with a twist. Every person entering will be sending two identical 12-1/2" (12" finished sized) quilt blocks. One of the blocks will go to the winner of the contest while the second block will go into a quilt which will be donated to Project Linus. This way, everyone who enters will be a winner.

The contests will run for three months with each period having a seasonal theme - Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. All those wishing to enter should make two identical 12-1/2" (12" finished sized) quilt blocks which in some way reflect the current season. Blocks can be any pattern, pieced or appliqued. Hand or machine pieced, traditional patterns or original designs, blocks must reflect some aspect of the season for which they are entered. Entries may contain holiday, religious or any seasonal theme or fabric. Since the blocks will also be going to children, please, no buttons, charms, paints and so on. Also, please be sure that the block will be able to withstand multiple machine washings.

The winner of each contest will be determined by vote. All entries will be scanned and images posted to a page where WWQP readers will vote for their favorite. The winner will receive half of all the blocks entered, the other half going to our Project Linus quilts. We'll also have a gallery of all our completed Project Linus quilts.

Please, do NOT quilt the blocks. The blocks will be quilted later by the winner or by us after we assemble the Project linus quilts.

Note: Should there be a tie or should the number of persons entering exceed 40, blocks will be divided among the top vote getters.
